” I also want to extend my appreciation to the host church and committee members for their efforts in making this leadership training possible. Your commitment and passion for this training program are truly inspiring and appreciated”

He said Leadership is not about a position, it’s about influence and inspiration. A truly effective leader empowers others by understanding their needs, communicating effectively, and guiding them towards a common goal. They are humble, adaptable, and foster a positive and collaborative environment.

RS Major Ogunmodede harped on the qualities of good leaders and urged everyone to be good leaders in their respective positions and companies.

He highlighted the qualities of leadership as follows;

  1. As a leader, you must have Vision: You must have a clear vision about what you want to do with your life. There are 7.95 billion people in the world and you need to stand out from the crowd, so your vision will determine your future as a leader one day.
  2. Communication is very key as a leader: ‘How good am I at communicating my ideas to others?’ This is the question you have to ask yourself if you plan to become a great leader. A great leader masters the art of communication to convey his vision, expectations, and feedback.
  3. A good leader must have Empathy: A person who understands and empathises with his teammates or people can build strong relationships and foster a positive work environment. They acknowledge individual needs, concerns, and strengths.
  4. Integrity must be a core value of a good leader: Trust forms the foundation of any relationship. As a leader, you need to demonstrate honesty, reliability, and consistency to earn the trust and respect of your team members.
  5. A good leader must be Resilient: Challenges and setbacks are inevitable. Good leaders face challenges head-to-head, adapt to change, and motivate their team to overcome obstacles.
  6. A good leader must have Courage: How courageous are you? Are you willing to take risks and advocate for change? A courageous leader stands for what he believes is right, even in the face of opposition or adversity.
  7. A good leader must be Creative: How often do you think outside the box? As a leader, you need to make innovative decisions to encourage creativity and welcome new ideas.
  8. Empowerment: A great leader empowers his people and others, solves their problems, and encourages cultural autonomy and accountability.
  9. Service for Others: A good leader believes in serving others before themselves. It is like the motto of the Indian Army, ‘Service Before Self’.

He urged all participants to begin the leadership training with a spirit of collaboration and let us cooperate with our leaders and listen attentively to the theory and practical aspects of the training. Once again, let us make this a memorable experience.
