Afin-Akoko, Ondo State — The Afin-Akoko community has witnessed notable developmental transformation over the past five years under the reign of HRM Oba Alhaji Prof. Abdur-Raheem Mustapha Adejoro (Asoroowo II), the Alafin of Afin-Akoko, as the monarch marked his 5th coronation anniversary with celebration, reflection, and a renewed commitment to community growth.

Speaking at the epoch event held at the Ansarudeen Primary School playground, the monarch expressed deep gratitude to God for a peaceful and progressive reign, while also appreciating the Ondo State Government under the amiable leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa for its continued support in the areas of infrastructure, governance, and community development.

Oba Adejoro, who ascended the throne in 2021 following due traditional processes and government approval, described his journey so far as impactful, noting that Afin-Akoko has experienced a visible transformation across key sectors of development.

One of the major achievements highlighted is the rehabilitation and asphalting of the road linking Afin to Oke-Agbe, the headquarters of Akoko North West Local Government Area. The monarch explained that the road, which was previously in a deplorable condition, had hindered movement and economic activities; however, it has now significantly improved connectivity and eased transportation for residents and visitors.

In the area of human capital development, the Royal Father noted that sons and daughters of Afin-Akoko are excelling in various fields, including academia, medicine, engineering, business, and public service. He also pointed to political representation, citing the appointment of Hon. Chief Rasheed Badmus as Commissioner in Ondo State as a source of pride for the community.

On infrastructure, Oba Prof.Adejoro commended the installation of solar-powered streetlights across parts of the town, which he said has improved security and reduced criminal activities. He also highlighted improvements in access to potable water through the provision of hand-pump and solar-powered boreholes facilitated by government agencies, private individuals, and non-governmental organisations.

The Alafin , Oba Adejoro further praised the Ajo-Omolore monthly fundraising initiative, describing it as a major driver of community development. According to the paramount ruler, the initiative has generated millions of naira used to support security arrangements, healthcare services, educational support, and the construction of a new palace.

He also announced the peaceful resolution of a long-standing dispute between the people of Gbangba and the wider Afin community, describing it as a significant step toward unity, peace, and sustainable development.
Culturally, the highly respected monarch highlighted the creation of the Afin Anthem as a milestone achievement that reflects the identity, pride, and values of the people. He commended key stakeholders contributing to the growth of the town, including the Alafin-in-Council, Afin Development Association (ADA), Bobatolu Forum, and Galaxy Forum among others

Oba Adejoro also expressed appreciation to the Ondo State Government for the presentation of a brand-new luxury vehicle, describing it as a historic gesture and a mark of honour to the Afin stool.
While thanking the people for their continued support, the monarch acknowledged that leadership decisions are not always universally popular, but assured that all actions taken are in the best interest of long-term community progress.
He called on indigenes at home and in the diaspora to continue supporting development initiatives, assuring that Afin-Akoko is now safer, more united, and increasingly attractive for investment.

The celebration attracted top government officials, representative of the Minister of Interior , Hon.Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, traditional rulers, political leaders, community leaders, and guests from different parts of the country. Ekiti State Executive of Alumni Association from the National Open University of Nigeria Ado-Ekiti Study Centre, and staff of NOUN alongside other guests from Ekiti State and beyond, were also in attendance to honour the monarch.
The Alafin concluded by expressing optimism for the future, praying for continued peace, unity, and prosperity in Afin-Akoko.
